Efficient Capacity Supply Ensures Upgraded Passenger Transport Services

National Railway Passenger Volume Surpasses 1 Billion in Q1: Multiple Passenger Transport Indicators Reach Historic Highs

According to CR, in the first quarter, the national railways transported over 1.014 billion passengers, with an average daily transportation of 11.147 million passengers, marking a 28.5% year-on-year increase. The transportation process remained safe, smooth, and orderly.

The person in charge of the passenger transport department of CR introduced that in the first quarter, CR actively adapted to the situation of improvement amid sustained stabilization and acceleration of personnel flow in the country's economy. Adhering to the people-centered development ideology, it accelerated the construction of a modern railway transportation service system, continuously deepened the structural reform of the supply side of transportation, and continuously optimized the operation of passenger trains, improving the quality of station services and effectively ensuring the safe, orderly, and comfortable travel of the people.

The advantage of a modern railway network has been leveraged to enhance passenger transportation capacity. Coordinating high-speed and normal-speed railway transportation resources, CR has scientifically analyzed passenger travel patterns, and continuously optimized train operation plans, achieving a reasonable match between capacity and passenger flow. In the first quarter, the national railways operated an average of 10,486 passenger trains per day, an increase of 15.5% year-on-year. During peak periods such as the Spring Festival travel rush and the New Year holiday, measures such as adding temporary passenger trains, coupling multiple EMUs, and adding carriages to normal-speed passenger trains were taken in response to pre-sale and waitlisted ticket data from the 12306 ticketing system, to promptly increase passenger trains in popular areas, directions, and periods to maximize meeting passenger travel needs. The number of passengers during the Spring Festival travel rush reached 480 million, setting a new historical record. The operation of public welfare "slow trains" and trains for rural revitalization continued, with increased stops at county stations to facilitate travel for people in remote areas.

Passenger transport service measures have been improved to enhance the travel experience of passengers. CR has organized to upgrade and expand the capacity of the 12306 ticketing system, optimizing the waitlist ticketing function, and launching new functions such as pre-filled ticket purchase information, subscription notifications for ticket sales, and a pre-sale ticking feature for students and migrant workers. With the highest daily ticket sales of 20.916 million and the highest browsing volume of 89.83 billion times, the system successfully coped with multiple rounds of massive visits, maintaining safe and stable operation. Offline, CR has expanded the waiting space at stations, added free charging and storage facilities, implemented basic services such as air conditioning and water supply at stations, and provided thoughtful services for key passengers such as the elderly, children, the sick, disabled, and pregnant women, and populations without access to the internet. CR has also implemented a special action to improve onboard catering services, enriching food varieties, improving taste quality, and implementing preferential prices to allow passengers to enjoy a good meal on board. Furthermore, they have been actively promoting the market-oriented operation of tourist trains, through cooperation with hotels and scenic spots to create high-quality tourist trains, stimulating the potential for tourism consumption, and promoting the development of tourism and the silver-haired economy.

Measures have been taken to effectively prevent safety risks to ensure the safe travel of passengers. Adhering to the concept of "life and safety rank first," CR has proactively responded to the dual rounds of large-scale low-temperature, rain, snow, and ice disasters during the passenger travel peak of the Spring Festival travel rush, taking measures such as reducing speed, detouring, and suspending operations in advance. They have dynamically adjusted passenger train operation plans to ensure on-the-way passenger service guarantees. Furthermore, they have organized officials and staff to remove ice and snow, combined with efforts to strengthen equipment inspection and maintenance, ensuring the safety and smooth operation of the railway and passenger trains. Faced with a large passenger flow, CR has strengthened passenger embarkation and disembarkation organization, optimized the flow of entering and exiting stations, and added guiding forces at key locations to ensure the safe and orderly embarkation and disembarkation of passengers.

The person in charge stated that as the second quarter begins, railway passenger flow remains stable. With the approaching peak periods of the May Day Holiday and Dragon Boat Festival, the railway authority will closely monitor changes in passenger flow, dynamically optimizing passenger transport product supply in response. They will make every effort to provide station services and expand the scope and extent of ticket price discounts, striving to make the travel experience of the general public more enjoyable.
